About

The University of Greenwich was founded in 1890, previously existing as Woolwich Polytechnic and Thames Polytechnic, before being granted university status and renamed in 1992.

The University of Greenwich courses are designed with business and industry and use the latest research-informed curricula while supporting and encouraging students to achieve their best possible outcome.

Situated on the banks of the River Thames, the university’s main campus is in what was the Old Royal Naval College – a UNESCO World Heritage site in Greenwich, southeast London. It features three baroque buildings designed by the celebrated architect Sir Christopher Wren in the late 17th century. The campus is often cited as one of the greenest in the UK.

The university has a large international community, with students from nearly 180 countries worldwide. Students also have the opportunity to study abroad, either in Munich or at various institutions in the United States. It serves around 21,000 undergraduate students and comprises four faculties: Engineering and Science, Education and Health, Architecture, Computing and Humanities, and the Business School.

Since 2013, more than £150 million has been invested in laboratories, teaching spaces and student facilities. This includes a new Student Hub in Medway Campus and the Dreadnought Building at Greenwich. Students will also benefit from excellent study facilities, including first-class advanced laboratories for science and engineering subjects and three campus libraries with dedicated academic services librarians.
